# YURI BEZMENOV TRIED TO WARN THEM

The discussion on Facebook began with a post about a genuine Nazi propaganda leaflet dropped over Britain by balloon in 1940\. It showed Churchill holding a Tommy gun beneath the words:  
  
\*\*“WANTED FOR INCITEMENT TO MURDER.”\*\*  
  
On the reverse, the regime invading Europe warned British families about the “horrors of war” while condemning Churchill for encouraging them to defend their country.  
  
The aggressor became the victim.  
Resistance became criminal.  
Surrender became moral.  
  
Churchill would probably have found it hilarious.  
  
Then came the comments beneath the Facebook post.  
  
Instead of discussing Nazi hypocrisy, many immediately placed Churchill himself on trial:  
  
\*\*“The Bengal famine!”\*\*  
\*\*“British imperialism!”\*\*  
\*\*“Churchill killed more people than Hitler!”\*\*  
  
The Bengal famine was a genuine catastrophe and British decisions deserve scrutiny - but that was not the subject. The subject was Nazi propaganda designed to demoralise Britain and portray resistance to invasion as criminal.  
  
Yet as the comments accumulated, Nazi Germany disappeared from its own propaganda campaign. Churchill became the defendant, Hitler became a footnote, and the aggressor slipped unnoticed through the door marked \*\*“ACTUAL SUBJECT.”\*\*  
  
Ex KGB, Yuri Bezmenov in the 1980s, warned that ideological subversion worked by changing people’s perception of reality until they blamed their own country while overlooking the aggression of its enemies. He also warned that a thoroughly demoralised person could become unable to assess true information, even when confronted with authentic evidence.  
  
The reaction beneath the Facebook post about the Nazi Leaflet was a remarkable illustration.  
  
That is why the accusers in the picture wear nappies. They represent intellectual infantilisation: indoctrinated adults shouting inherited slogans and congratulating themselves on their independence-unaware that their outrage was scripted and their conclusions supplied in advance.  
  
Many were perhaps not even born when Bezmenov issued his warnings. Yet they grew up within the educational, media and cultural institutions he said were being targeted.  
  
They imagine themselves to be exposing propaganda while unknowingly demonstrating its success.
