"WATCH WITH MAHMOOD" Britain’s latest children’s programme has a familiar closing song:

“Time to go home, time to go home…”

But in this staggeringly expensive remake, the failed asylum claimants wave goodbye - while the British taxpayer picks up the bill. Up to £40,000 per family.

“Time to go home…the taxpayer is funding goodbye.”

This extraordinary “prize,” courtesy of the Home Office, is being offered to selected failed-asylum-seeker families living in asylum hotels who have exhausted their appeal rights: £10,000 per person, capped at £40,000 per family, to leave Britain voluntarily.

Meanwhile, British families work, obey the law and struggle with rent, heating, food and taxes. Nobody offers them £40,000.

Mahmood argues that this may save money because enforced returns average £48,800, while accommodating a family of three in an asylum hotel can cost up to £158,000 a year.

But this exposes the insanity of the entire system.

Why were people without a lawful right to remain allowed to become established at enormous public expense? Why were claims and appeals permitted to drag on until paying them to leave appeared economical? Welcome to the British Border Jackpot!

Fail at the border.

Pay at the departure gate.

The taxpayer loses every time.

Britain should prevent unlawful entry at the border - Caught illegally entering must not mean automatic settlement in Britain.

Otherwise, what message reaches the smuggling routes?

Enter illegally. Receive accommodation. Resist removal. Perhaps receive a five-figure departure package.

What a wonderful incentive and advertisement for smugglers to exploit.
