Welcome aboard the Channel’s most dependable transport connection.\*\*The smugglers launch them.French vessels monitor them.British services collect them.\*\*Nobody wants lifeboat crews to leave people drowning. The volunteers are courageous men and women who risk their lives for \*\*£0 in wages\*\*.But “saving lives” must not become a sacred phrase used to place the entire operation beyond scrutiny.Smugglers can sell places on dangerous dinghies because they know that, once the boats reach the right point, British services will probably complete the journey. That predictable outcome helps keep their criminal business model alive. And now Peter Sparkes - whose 2025 RNLI remuneration package totalled \*\*£217,302\*\* - lectures the public about the selflessness of the unpaid volunteers doing the dangerous work.Yes, Mr Sparkes: those volunteers may represent the very best of British society. But their courage must not be used as a shield by RNLI leadership- or by the Government that placed them in this compromising position. If the RNLI objects to being called a “taxi service,” its leadership should confront the Government responsible for turning emergency rescue into a seemingly permanent Channel reception system - not dismiss everyone questioning it as spreading “misinformation.” The RNLI would do everyone a favour if they took the government to court and force the government to do its job defending Britains borders...instead of forcing RNLI to be a taxi service for people smugglers.\*\*The volunteers deserve our respect. The leadership deserves scrutiny.\*\*\*
