Has Britain developed political Stockholm syndrome - defending those who undermine the country while treating its own concerned citizens as the problem?

When a nation begins defending those who undermine it - and condemning those who defend it - perhaps rehabilitation is overdue.

BREAKING: Former Archbishop Rowan Williams has been admitted to a specialist rehabilitation centre with an acute case of institutional Stockholm syndrome.

Doctors became concerned after observing a familiar pattern: rebukes for Reform whenever it speaks about defending Britain’s borders, culture or Christian inheritance - but extraordinary patience, sensitivity and understanding for those openly hostile to all three.

Hospital staff say the condition is increasingly common among Britain’s establishment clergy.

Treatment will begin with several controlled doses of reality, followed by supervised readings of British history and selected passages from the Bible concerning shepherds, wolves and the responsibility to guard the flock.

Doctors remain hopeful, although recovery may prove difficult. The patient has spent so long offering tea and biscuits to those contemptuous of Britain that he has forgotten Christianity does not require a nation to cooperate in its own destruction.

Compassion is a Christian virtue.

National self-erasure is not.
